A Seattle native, Sims Weymuller graduated with honors in political science from Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. He spent three years in Washington D.C. as an organizer and lobbyist for a national environmental and consumer organization. Then he earned his law degree from the University of Washington School of Law.  Sims completed an externship in the chambers of the Honorable Marsha J. Pechman, United States District Court Judge for the Western District of Washington.  Sims has been named as a Washington Law and Politics Rising Star in 2005, 2007, 2008, and 2009.

During his stay at the University of Washington School of Law, Sims:

• Was executive articles editor of the Pacific Rim Law and Policy Journal
  
  • Authored and published Phoenix from the Ashes: the 1999 Pacific Salmon Agreement, 10 Pac Rim L. & Pol’y J. 816 (2001)
• Founded and directed Greenlaw—a student environmental litigation group at the University of Washington
• Served on the Moot Court Honor Board
• Was invited into the National Order of the Barristers
