A Seattle native, Sims Weymuller graduated with honors in political science from Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. He spent three years in Washington D.C. as an organizer and lobbyist for a national environmental and consumer organization. Then he earned his law degree from the University of Washington School of Law. Sims completed an externship in the chambers of the Honorable Marsha J. Pechman, United States District Court Judge for the Western District of Washington. Sims has been named as a Washington Law and Politics Rising Star in 2005, 2007, 2008, and 2009.
